Rachel Wagner

Rachel Wagner, LPC, MA

I am a psychotherapist with over 15 years of experience as a therapist and I have been working in the mental health field for over 20.  It is my belief that seeking out counseling services is a brave and proactive way to improve your quality of life. I strive to tailor all of my clients’ therapeutic journeys to their respective individual hopes, goals, and needs to leave them feeling more complete, joyful, and with a greater understanding of themselves than prior to entering therapy.  I aim to create a warm, kind, inclusive, and safe therapeutic space that is free of judgment and open to what the client brings to each session. I particularly enjoy working with clients through transitional periods in their life. I aim to help process shifts that are taking place and how to find roots and grounding in the next steps, whether it be a developmental or lifestyle transition, a vocational change, starting a parenting journey, the empty nest phase, divorce, or recovering from a loss.

I use a client-centered and strength-based approach to treatment, working with clients to achieve their therapeutic goals. I join the client where they are at and aim to meet their therapeutic needs whether that be processing and healing from past challenges or traumas, or working towards positive change. I work with clients to reduce emotional pain and work towards joy and fulfillment.

Education

I received a BA in psychology from the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee during which time I focused on elements of health psychology as well as working with neurodivergent populations. I went on to receive my Masters in Clinical Psychology during which time I focused on factors that contribute to and create traits of resilience as well as completed an internship working with individuals, couples, and families. I hold licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor, LPC, in the state of Wisconsin and maintain regular clinical supervision and professional development to enhance the quality of my work.

Experience

Prior to working in private practice I worked in an outpatient community mental health clinic for 13 years. I worked with children, adolescents, and adults spanning from young adulthood to late life counseling. I worked with clients struggling with a wide variety of challenges including anxiety, depression, trauma, divorce, grief and loss, ADHD, perfectionism, and low self-esteem. I spent time consulting in schools and organizing groups to help improve self-esteem and reduce bullying behavior. I have facilitated the Kids in the Middle® groups as well as grief groups. I was recognized with the Ann Agulnick Young Professional Award in 2019 from the Women’s philanthropy board at the Milwaukee Jewish Federation.
